In our latest Q&A session with private GP practices, we sat down with Dr Usman Haq to learn more about Quantum Health, a trusted private medical clinic in Glasgow.

Health Prem:

Hello, Dr Haq, how are you today?

Dr Haq:

Not too bad, thanks. Busy as always!

Health Prem:

Thank you for agreeing to talk to Health Prem today. Can you start with a brief introduction to your practice?

Dr Haq:

Of course. I started Quantum Health because I saw a real need for easier access to GP appointments. Even as a GP myself, I struggled to get an appointment, and I knew there had to be a better way.

I was born and raised in Glasgow’s southside, I went to school locally, and I wanted to help my local community. Quantum Health has now been running successfully for almost five years.

Health Prem:

So, being from the southside of Glasgow, you know the area well and understand the needs of the people?

Dr Haq:

Absolutely.

Quantum Health Shawlands appointments

Health Prem:

Was it just difficulty accessing GP appointments, or were there other issues like the length of appointments?

Dr Haq:

Both. Even when patients manage to get an appointment, the time allocated is often too short. That’s why at Quantum Health, we ensure patients get the time they need to fully discuss their concerns.

‘Continuity of care’ at Quantum Health

Health Prem:

How many GPs do you have at Quantum Health?

Dr Haq:

I’m the main GP here. The majority of the time, you will see me directly. We have a team including nurses, other specialist doctors and physiotherapists. Occasionally, we have locum GPs covering the short-term, but we focus on continuity of care, so our patients normally see the same doctor.

Health Prem:

So you offer a more personal and consistent service?

Dr Haq:

Exactly. Building trust and long-term relationships with patients is key to good healthcare.

Dr Haq Quantum Glasgow

A comprehensive range of medical services

Health Prem:

So, you have other healthcare professionals on-site, such as physiotherapists or specialists?

Dr Haq:

Yes, we have a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Specialist Nurses for weight loss and smoking cessation

  • Physiotherapists & Joint Specialists

  • Adult & Child Psychiatry Services

  • Dermatology Services

  • Ear Wax Removal

  • Sexual Health Clinic

  • Travel Clinic

Health Prem:

Do patients need a GP referral to access these services?

Dr Haq:

Usually, yes. However, if a patient specifically requests a psychiatrist or another specialist, we can arrange direct appointments.

That said, sometimes patients believe they need one service but may actually benefit from another, so a GP consultation ensures the right approach.

Health Prem:

Do you provide diagnostic tests in-house, or do you refer patients elsewhere?

Dr Haq:

We conduct blood tests and certain diagnostics in-house, including ECGs and Lung Function Tests. For imaging, such as scans, we refer patients to top private hospitals like Ross Hall and the Nuffield Hospital.
