Hi Dr Ben, thanks for agreeing to talk to us today. Can you start by briefly introducing Dr Finlay’s Private Practice.
Dr Ben:
Sure. I founded the practice in 2019. I’m a GP with nearly 20 years of experience and my team and I deliver personalised, integrated healthcare.
Inspired by a personal experience of illness
Health Prem:
What inspired you to start the practice?
Dr Ben:
In 2021, I was struck down with Long COVID, having contracted COVID while supporting patients with complex medical conditions in prison. This triggered a personal journey through Long COVID and recovery which deepened my interest in functional medicine and co-infections and led to us launching one of the first and busiest multi-disciplinary Long COVID clinics in the UK.
Dr Finlay’s Private Practice now provides online support for Long COVID for the whole of the UK. We also offer international lifestyle consultations and home visits around our clinics based in the Midlands, Yorkshire and central London.

How many GPs work at Dr Finlay’s Private Practice?
Dr Ben:
We currently have five GPs in our Birmingham practice.

Do you have other specialists available onsite?
Dr Ben:
Yes. We work with handpicked psychologists and nutritionists as well as doctors specialising in Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Weight Management, Diabetes, and more.

What services do you currently offer at Dr Finlay’s Private Practice?
Dr Ben:
The Dr Finlay team provide a full range of private GP services including in-person, telephone and online appointments, home visits, full health checks, an allergy clinic, blood testing and minor surgery.
We also offer personalised weight management services which may include support from a nutritionist or psychologist, as well as Men’s Health Services, specialist menopause support, clinical psychology and mental health support and a long COVID clinic. In addition, we are supported by our pharmacy courier service that delivers your prescription medication straight to your door.

And how much is a standard face-to-face appointment?
Dr Ben:
A standard 30-minute GP appointment is £160 and a specialist appointment, including a Long COVID consultation, is £399.

How long is a standard appointment?
Dr Ben:
A standard GP appointment is 30 minutes, and we offer specialist initial consultations of 60 minutes.
Booking an appointment - waiting times & opening hours
Health Prem:
What about waiting times? What’s the average waiting time for an appointment? Do you offer same-day or emergency appointments?
Dr Ben:
On average the waiting time for a specialist appointment is around two weeks. Same-day appointments may be available depending on availability and pre-booked appointments.

What are your opening hours? Do you offer weekend or evening appointments?
Dr Ben:
We are open from Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm. We don’t currently offer weekend or evening appointments.
